Explorer Ventures has been operating for over 30 years, and they have worked continuously to drive the industry to sustainability by identifying challenges faced specifically by liveaboards and developing sustainable solutions to those environmental challenges.
They were the very first liveaboard company to become a symbiotic partner with Reef-World back in 2018. This partnership aims to decrease pressure on coral reefs and related ecosystems and contribute to the public’s behaviour change towards protecting coral reefs. With the support of Reef-World, Explorer Ventures is role modelling liveaboard sustainability by committing to minimise their environmental impact across all their operations by implementing environmental policy and continuing to educate and inspire their guests to become ocean ambassadors.
Since the partnership was established, Explorer Ventures has worked alongside Reef-World through the UN Environment Programme’s initiative, Green Fins, to develop new environmental guidelines for scuba diving liveaboards. They have helped develop various new solutions, from mooring programs to eco-friendly products to providing in-depth environmental dive briefings that have already fed into Green Fins’ global messaging.
Explorer Ventures aims to expand their efforts to their international fleet and set a good example to the rest of the diving industry to improve their environmental practices. They will continue to look for new effective ways to reduce impacts and encourage their guests to do the same.
This year, Explorer Ventures and Reef-World have created a new onboarding video that all guests will watch prior to their trip. It’s a great example of managing guest expectations and explaining why certain policies are in place, allowing for a smoother rollout and better uptake of their sustainability policies.
