Coral reefs are home to a quarter of marine life and, along with other marine ecosystems, provide 50 % of the oxygen we breathe. Pressure from factors such as climate change and human activities now threaten these precious ecosystems and they could be gone in your lifetime. If they go, the health and well-being of people and planet will go with them. This makes it imperative for us to contribute to their protection.
There is still time to act and you can help.
One of the main threats to coral reefs is human activities such as those caused by tourists, who often lack the awareness to behave responsibly around these fragile ecosystems. Reef-World tackles this by working with the tourism industry so that people can enjoy the amazing wonders of coral reefs without causing damage. We work with small local operators and communities, and international organisations, providing education, tools and support to enable sustainable use of the marine environment. Through our flagship project Green Fins, we have created a framework which provides the only internationally recognised code of conduct to reduce the impact of the marine tourism industry.
We can’t do this alone. We completely rely on support from grants, corporate partners and generous individuals to help fund our work. Our team are working hard to raise awareness, build capacity and support the tourism industry to protect and nurture our coral reefs, and we have already shown that our work has an incredible impact. Our projects can be found across the globe but we would love to do more. That’s why we need your help. With your support, we can increase our reach and protect more of these awe-inspiring, underwater habitats.
