Small actions,

BIG results

Coral reefs are under severe global and local threats. The choices we make every day will affect whether coral reefs survive for another generation. Whether it’s changing how you vote, travel habits or volunteering your time to citizen science, you can take action and help buy time for reefs.

  • This is the most powerful thing you can do for reefs and ocean life. Vote for candidates that prioritise action on climate change!

    • Look for environmental standards that assess and certify your:

      • hotels

      • tour operators

      • scuba diving or snorkelling operators — like Green Fins!

    • Support coastal communities by buying local where possible.

    • Take local and public transport when you can.

  • Our lives are predominantly fuelled by fossil fuels, which are causing climate-related threats to reefs everywhere.

Help reduce our dependency on unsustainable fuels — be mindful of your electricity and water use at home and when travelling.

  • Plastic pollution is a major threat for reefs. Especially when travelling make sure you are refilling your water and not adding to the plastic problem.

  • Visiting the coast? Spend just 5 minutes picking up any trash you see! Small actions add up when we all get involved.

  • Choose sunscreens with non-toxic UV filters. Pick non-nano zinc oxide or non-nano titanium dioxide sunscreens.

  • Collect data that helps us make the best decisions to manage and protect the environment. Here are some initiatives that can use your help:

  • If you’re a scuba diver, learn how you can protect coral reefs one dive at a time with our Green Fins Diver e-Course.

  • When booking a dive or snorkel trip, choose a Green Fins Member. These operations are certified to be making positive and sustainable changes to their businesses.
