Our policy work bridges grassroots efforts and government action, ensuring that top-down regulations reinforce sustainable practices championed by businesses on the ground.

While the Philippines remains proud of its tourism treasures, we also face a lot of threats in the same areas. This calls for a comprehensive approach to address these challenges. This is where Green Fins comes in. We mobilize our partners in the marine tourism industry to be our partners in the conservation and protection of not just our coral reefs, but the rest of our coastal and marine ecosystems.”

— Grick Cordero, Department of Natural Resources, Coastal and Marine Division

Integrating sustainable marine tourism standards into National Targets and Strengthening Regulatory frameworks

We support governments that have adopted the Green Fins approach to institutionalise the programme and reduce environmental threats to the marine environment, through the:

  • development of local and national policies.

  • development or strengthening of relevant regulatory frameworks.

  • integration of Green Fins into national regulatory frameworks.

  • strategic training and capacity building for governments, NGOs and other resource managers.

International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) membersip

As an active member of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), we serve as a vital connection between marine tourism and worldwide coral reef conservation efforts.

We transform our programme data into valuable conservation intelligence, highlighting real-world threats and providing field-tested solutions. We ensure that tackling local threats to reefs is on international environmental agendas.

We translate critical conservation developments back to tourism operators to highlight areas where they can contribute, including reef and bleaching monitoring and coral disease prevention.
