Conservation impact is more than numbers on a page, it’s the changes people choose to do every single day. Some examples of the stories behind these numbers are:
Over 265 dive and snorkel operators that were regularly throwing their anchors on reefs have stopped.
Anchoring is one of the most damaging practices a marine tourism business can do. By stopping anchoring and installing and maintaining mooring buoys, these operators are also alleviating anchor damage from other operators.
Over 185 dive and snorkel operators that didn’t provide environmental training now do so regularly for their staff and guests.
This drives uptake of other environmentally-friendly practices, trickles into local communities through their staff, and teaches tourists what sustainable practices to look out for on their next trip.
Over 660 cleanup events were completed by our member businesses across the globe.
Whether they were beach or underwater cleanups, they had to tick a few boxes to call it an event, including involving community members and providing some environmental education about marine debris.
As we continue to see significant increases in membership to a global programme, we look forward to continuing to reduce environmental threats, maximising positive behaviours and buying reefs the time they need to adapt to a changing climate.
