Press release: Adventure Travel Trade Association and The Reef-World Foundation Announce Strategic Partnership to Advance Sustainable Marine Tourism

The Adventure Travel Trade Association and The Reef-World Foundation have partnered to support adventure travel companies in embedding sustainable marine tourism practices.

Through this partnership, ATTA and Reef-World will collaborate to raise sustainability awareness among ATTA’s global membership, introduce and promote the Green Fins Code of Conduct and its training opportunities to operators, and provide special conditions for ATTA members, including a 10 percent discount on all Green Fins e-courses. These online programmes are designed both for dive professionals and recreational divers: the Green Fins Dive Guide e-Course and the Green Fins Diver e-Course. Both courses are self-paced and modular, providing information and practical tools to help divers and dive professionals build on their existing skills to minimize their environmental impact and contribute to coral reef protection.

For over 20 years, Reef-World has worked with governments, communities, and the private sector to protect coral reefs by reducing local environmental threats. Its flagship programme, Green Fins, is the only internationally recognised set of environmental standards for diving and snorkelling. By guiding operators, staff, and tourists toward responsible practices, Green Fins helps transform the marine tourism industry into a driver of reef protection.

“We are incredibly excited to partner with ATTA. This collaboration is a powerful step forward, uniting our shared passion for conservation with ATTA's expansive global network,” said JJ Harvey, Operations Director of The Reef-World Foundation. “It allows us to reach a broader community of adventure travel companies who are already committed to sustainability. By making our internationally recognised Green Fins standards and training more accessible to ATTA members, we hope to empower them with the knowledge and actionable solutions needed to protect the world's coral reefs.”

“The ATTA community shares a deep commitment to sustainability across all facets of adventure travel,” said Shannon Stowell, CEO of ATTA. “This collaboration with Reef-World provides our members with globally recognised tools, training, and real-world solutions to take measurable action in protecting one of the planet’s most precious ecosystems.”
